Throughout July we will be collecting food to donate to Cambridge Sustainable Food project to support families during the summer holidays. They support multiple food hubs across the region to provide families and children in need with food and cooked meals.
Cambridge Sustainable Food is a partnership between local authorities, private organisations, community groups, and individuals committed to improving the food supply chain in Cambridge and surrounding villages.
Their work follows the key issues set out by Sustainable Food Places which is a network that supports others in exploring and communicating practical solutions on six current key food issues.
1: Promoting healthy and sustainable food
2: Food poverty, ill health, and healthy food access
3: Community knowledge, skills, and resources
4: A vibrant, diverse sustainable food economy
5: Transforming catering and food procurement
6: Reducing waste
So far, as part of one of their many campaigns, Cambridge Sustainable Food have delivered 4,627 lunches to children since Easter 2020 and we wish to contribute further to this.
How will it work?
We will be collecting food items or monetary donations to then purchase food from the list provided by Cambridge Sustainable Food which includes rice, lentils, UHT milk, tinned goods, breakfast cereals, flour, tea, coffee, tinned beans, jam and biscuits.
We will be delivering the food on the 20th of July which is last day of term to allow CSF to utilise the food straight away at their hubs, by cooking meals for children and families in need.
If you would like to get involved and make a monetary donation to be used to purchase food items, then please get in touch with us by email or telephone.
